Naira Ali Releases Powerful New Single “State Mama” Highlighting Social Injustice in Uganda

Ugandan singer and activist Naira Ali has once again stirred conversation with the release of her emotionally charged new single, “State Mama,” which premiered yesterday on her official YouTube channel.
In the song, Naira Ali opens up about her deep frustrations and heartbreak over the state of her homeland, Uganda. Delivered through soul-stirring vocals and haunting melodies, “State Mama“ is a cry to the nation portrayed metaphorically as a mother that seems to have turned a blind eye to the suffering of its children.
“Why do you want to see me suffer?”
This recurring question in the track becomes the heart of her message. Naira Ali reflects on the pain of young girls falling victim to sex trafficking and the growing number of boys getting caught up in gambling, drugs, and crime issues she says are overlooked by those in power.
The artist, who has been living in the U.S. since 2019, does not shy away from calling out what she sees as a failing system. Her lyrics paint a bleak picture of neglect, corruption, and broken dreams, underscoring the feeling of abandonment many Ugandan youth experience today.
“I left my country, but it never left me,” she says in the video’s closing caption, addressing fans with raw emotion. “I still feel the pain of our little girls lost in sex trade and our boys drowning in betting and hopelessness. State Mama, are you watching?”
A Bold Political and Emotional Statement.
Known for blending activism with art, Naira Ali has long used her platform to speak on matters of social justice and empowerment. But “State Mama“ marks one of her most direct and vulnerable commentaries yet an open letter to Uganda, steeped in both love and lament.
Within 24 hours of release, the video has already begun gaining traction online, with fans praising her for speaking truth to power and shedding light on issues that are often swept under the rug.
“She always speaks from the heart. This song brought me to tears,” one YouTube commenter wrote. “We need more voices like hers.”
In addition to the music video, Naira hinted on her social media that this single may be part of a larger upcoming project focused on social themes and personal reflection. Whether it’s a standalone protest anthem or a prelude to a new album, “State Mama” confirms that Naira Ali remains one of the boldest and most socially conscious voices in Ugandan music.
The single “State Mama“ is now available on her YouTube channel and is expected to hit streaming platforms later this week.
