Mpiima Music: The young digital marketer and revolutionist determined to keep on rising
In this digital era, the rise of digital marketing gurus, including the self-proclaimed ones – is evident in Uganda. But the product of their hands has, over time, inevitably separated the chaff from the grain (gurus).
Mpiima Music born Mpiima Johnson can rightly claim his place among the gurus, having made a name for himself in the digital transformation and public relations field.
At just 29, he has developed from providing digital and public relations solutions to Ugandan individuals, to working with known acclaimed artistes, including Grenade Music, Jotie Music, Harina Love and more.
He has also been the go-to person for many Ugandan musical artistes in the context of digital marketing solutions.
For many Ugandan artistes, including Jotie Music, Harina Love, Grenade Music, RA Avenue Music and more, their digital presence and revenues have scaled greater heights because of Mpiima’s involvement.
When we caught up with Mpiima Music, who is also keen on music recording, he let us in on his trade and ambitions.
Started off in a garage
Born 29 years ago in Kampala, Mpiima Johnson is the founder and CEO of Mpiima Music, RA A venue Music, a five-year-old digital revolution and public relations firm plying its trade in Uganda and more recently, the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
On top of his work in the digital marketing, revolution and advertising world, Mpiima is also a philanthropist through the Mpiima Music Foundation, a non-profit group in Uganda. Before focusing on digital and public relations, Mpiima ventured into music singing and promotion.
Mpiima Johnson, who has a bachelor’s degree in information technology from Makerere University, climbed his way to fame for his expertise in growing pages. As an adept and seasoned web developer, he amassed a skillset nurtured by his desire to plug into a gap in the music industry.
“Many musical artistes wanted to be like their international counterparts,” he says.
“They wanted to drop [release] songs and monetize them. They didn’t know how to go about managing their socials [social media pages], and leveraging their fame to create revenue streams off of the various music streaming platforms on the internet.
“That is where my solutions started gaining momentum.”
Mpiima Johnson’s dream started in 2019 – from a garage in Makindye. At the time, he was but a mere little-known boutique agency. Fast-forward to 2022 and he is a widely travelled enthusiast. He has set up offices in Uganda. He has worked with a wide range of musicians and is now being sought after by markets across the continent.
“We are the undisputed kings of SEO (search engine optimization), website development and design, Google display network and social media buy. We help businesses and individuals amass traffic on their desired platforms and teach them how to monetize that traffic,” says Keem.
He underlines that he has always been passionate about taking brands and businesses to the next level.
‘They don’t believe in processes’
According to the young digital revolutionist, many people do not understand how digital works.
“Most people don’t understand what they are paying for. They don’t believe in processes. They think digital is a shelf commodity that you pay for and take home immediately. Which isn’t the case,” he says.
“They don’t understand the different steps you have to undertake for your advertising to work. They don’t know that success in the digital realm is a combination of various factors which move and evolve by the day.
“If people can understand that, and the need to listen and do as told by an expert, then things would be a lot easier,” explains Mpiima Johnson aka Mpiima Music.
For a young ambitious man with a million-plus following on social media, Mpiima Music is determined to keep on rising.
