Mr. Ibu’s children were arrested for stealing their father’s donations.
The two children of the famous Nigerian actor Ibu (real name John Okafor) were arrested last year on charges of stealing money to pay for hospital expenses.
The 62-year-old had his leg amputated in November 2023 after fans donated to a crowdfunding campaign. Her son Daniel Okafor and adopted daughter Jasmine Chioma are accused of breaking into her cell phone and stealing $60,700. The two have not made any comment since their arrest in Lagos. After the brothers appeared at their bail hearing on Thursday, police announced they would be arrested and investigated for fraud. The court said the two could be released on $17,000 bail. They were detained.
Police investigators said they discovered the father had installed the app on his phone after the fundraiser began. It also allows you to transfer money from the other person’s account.
They are scheduled to appear at their next court hearing on March 11. Mr Ibu’s health problems first came to public attention in October last year. The family posted a video on social media of the Nollywood star celebrating in the hospital. In the video, he received a great response asking fans to help with medical expenses.
The actor rose to fame over 20 years ago with the Nigerian comedy Mr. Ibu, which was his nickname. It is still considered one of the best Nigerian performances in a comedy role.
He has appeared in several other notable films in Nollywood, a multi-billion dollar Nigerian film industry. A few years ago, the star told a local newspaper that she had a total of 13 children, some of whom were adopted.
