Bishop Emeritus Bakyenga Dies At 79
At the age of 79, Bishop Emeritus Bakyenga aka Paul Kaamuza Emeritus Bakyenga, the retired archbishop of Mbarara, passed away. At the age of 27, Bakyenga embarked on his career as a priest. Sadly, he died last night at St Francis Hospital in Nsambya.
The deceased had visited the hospital frequently over the previous five years.
Bishop Emeritus Bakyenga said goodbye to Christians in the Mbarara Archdiocese in 2020 after 50 years as a priest.
One of the deceased’s close friends broke the news of his passing. Later today, a statement regarding Bakyenga’s passing is anticipated from the Catholic Church.
Following his ordination as a priest in the Bushenyi district in 1977, Bakyenga was named the chaplain of Ntare School in Mbarara. Later, he relocated to Nyamitanga Parish to serve as the Curate.
Additionally, he served as the rector of Katabi Seminary and the pastoral coordinator at Nyamitanga Cathedral for a time.
Bakyenga said he had medical issues and asked Pope Francis to retire him in 2018. Pope Francis approved Bakyenga’s resignation in 2020 and named Auxiliary Bishop Lambert Bainomugisha as his replacement.
Bishop Patrick Okabe, the Serere county member of parliament, recently passed away in a car accident, according to similar news previously reported by Soft Radio Uganda. The accident occurred in Budaka district on Monday at 7:00 am, according to ASP Immaculate Alaso, the Bukedi North Police spokesperson.
